Students and counselors of the School of Civil Engineering (SCE) accessed to the lecture themed on mental health on the platforms of Tencent Meeting and Bilibili at 7:30 pm, October 15, 2021. The lecture was hosted by Li Qiang, counselor of the SCE and given by He Liqun, associate professor of Psychological Research and Counseling Center (PRCC) of Southwest Jiaotong University.
At the beginning of the lecture, professor He gave a brief introduction to her presentation, which contained five parts: the understanding of mental health, psychological features, some common psychological dilemmas, self-adjustment and self-improvement and seeking for help as a postgraduate.
In terms of mental health assessment, a perfect psychological well-being is reachable when we have a sense of inner stability, which means we can handle tasks effectively and peacefully and live in harmony with the world, according to professor He. When we are mentally unwell or suffering from depression, we should resort to professional psychological counseling and self-adjustment.
For the potential dilemmas faced by postgraduates, professor He gave detailed divisions including how to handle interpersonal relationship, the relationships with supervisors and academic and financial pressure. When encountering these problems, we need to seek help to establish a good personality. In this way, we can make proper decisions and adjustments when in trouble next time.
To sum up, we need to build self-identity, be well positioned and establish a clear career and life planning responsibly.
In addition, we must always pay attention to our mental health and learn to accept and free from the burden, and actively ask for help from our community.
At the end of the lecture, professor He provided us the access to psychological counseling on campus and hoped everyone can live in harmony with others, and live the way he/she likes. The lecture came to a successful conclusion.
